Water Filtration Systems/Accessories

What is a reverse osmosis water system?

Reverse osmosis systems produce pure water by forcing untreated water or tap water through a semi permeable membrane. The membrane has pore size of approximately 0.0001 micron or 1 x 10^-8 cm, essentially allowing only pure water molecules to pass through, and the contaminates that are separated from the membrane are forced down the drain. The system consists of both pre and post filters which are used for additional contaminant filtration.

How much water is actually used to make a gallon of RO water?

Most of our RO systems require to reject three gallons of waste water for every one gallon of purified water it makes. The rejected water is the byproduct of the RO process and contains the unwanted total dissolved solids. It is an insignificant amount compared to the overall water usage in a single household. However, many of our customers recycle the water for gardening purpose instead of draining the water to the drain pipe.

How is reverse osmosis water compared to bottled water?

Just as good or even better. Metpure uses the same reverse osmosis technology as what other major bottling plants use to filter their bottled water. However, having the system right in your own home, you can control the water quality the system produces, without fearing for other sources of contamination.

How are Metpure RO systems compared to other ROs in the market?

Our systems are individually tested and all use high-end components, such as:

The world renowned Dow Filmtec RO membrane dry polyamide Thin-Film Composite (TFC) material for our reverse osmosis membrane, which is proven to have the most consistent water purity production and containment rejection.

High density cartridge and CAM have passed quality control with unprecedented pressure tests up to 1.05 MPa (152psi) @ 10k cycles.

NSF certified fittings and Euro-designed style spigot.

Also, Metpure Versatile system has a petite profile that can save you up to 3 times the space in comparison to a traditional bulky housing-style filtration system.

My RO storage tank is deflated and water comes out very slowly. What should I do?

Instructions to inflate your RO storage tank can be found HERE.

Is it easy to change Metpure Versatile filters?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Our Metpure Versatile system filters are very easy to change- literally a simple twist motion like turning a knob would enable you to change filters. Also, the Cartridge Attachment Manifold (CAM) shuts-off water automatically, so you don’t need to shut-off any valves while changing filters. Watch video HERE.

Is there any maintenance that I need to worry about?

Our RO systems use high quality, NSF certified components. Besides periodic filter replacement, the system should last a life time without maintenance. However, normal wear and tear, water quality, water pressure, and usage will contribute to the deterioration of water valves, storage tank, and other parts on the system.

How often do I need to change my filters?

Filter lifespan greatly depends on usage and water quality. To be safe, Metpure Versatile pre-filters are recommended to be replaced every 6-12 months and RO membrane and post filter are recommended to be replaced every 2-4 years. By following the recommended filter maintenance schedule of the filters, we can ensure you will always get the best, most purified drinking water at any given time.

I can't find the Metpure Versatiles filters that I need, what should I do?

If the filters you are looking for are not listed on the website, it is either they are out of stock or they are not available for sale through our retail channel.

If they are out of stock here, you may try other retail platforms (e.g. Amazon or Walmart) and see if our authorized resell partners have them available on those platforms.

If they are still not available, you may need to go back to your original place of purchase such as your local authorized reseller that you had purchased the system from.

Is Metpure Versatile RO system easy to install?

Yes. We have made the system very end-user friendly to install by cutting down a lot of complicated steps that you may otherwise encounter with other systems. Our manual also include a very illustrative step-by-step guide and an industry’s first scannable video QR code in each section of the manual so that you could watch the instructional video to see exactly how to follow each step. For installation video, click HERE.

Can I change my system by installing different filters?

Yes. Our Metpure Versatile system has many different filters that you can use to adapt to your current need without purchasing another new system. For example, we have filters that can increase your gallon production to 100 gallons per day, or turn your current system into an alkaline water production machine by installing our alkaline filter.

What are total dissolved solids (TDS)?

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are all organic and inorganic contaminants that have been dissolved into water. These contaminants are gathered from everything water comes into contact with before it finds its way to you. Common elements of TDS are Iron, Sulfate, and Chloride. When measuring the effectiveness of an RO membrane, TDS is the fastest, most effective, and accurate method to objectively quantify.

How do I connect my filtration system to a fridge or icemaker?

We have filtration system fridge kit that you can use to hook up your system easily to a fridge or icemaker. Search for part number ROFKIT2514.

My reverse osmosis system seems like it's draining water constantly, what's going on?

To produce purified or permeate water, drain or rejection of waste water on a reverse osmosis system is normal and within the natural workings of reverse osmosis membranes. When system first starts up, rejection water will constantly drain until the storage tank is completely filled with purified water. The draining of rejection water of the RO system will constantly happen whenever purified water is removed from the storage tank (such as dispensing for a glass of water) until the storage tank is completely filled again. Therefore, it may appear the system is always constantly rejecting drain water, but the fact is that the purified water is constantly being dispensed and removed from the storage tank causing the system to always needing to fill the tank by producing more purified water and rejecting waste water. However, there may be instances that the rejection water is constantly draining even when the storage tank is completely filled due to faulty auto-shut off valve (ASV). In this case, ASV may need to be replaced.

What is an auto shut off valve (ASV) and what is it for?

Reverse osmosis water filtration systems require an auto-shut off valve because they need a way to automatically shut off the water when the storage tank reaches capacity. The ASV monitors the pressure in the storage tank and shuts off water automatically coming into the RO membrane when tank pressure reaches approximately 2/3 of the pressure of the incoming tap water. If ASV is missing, installed incorrectly, or malfunctions, it could result in the water constantly running into the drain line, thus greatly depleting the lifespan of the RO membrane and also wasting water. So, to test if the ASV is working, turn the tank ball valve on top of the storage tank to the OFF position. Then prepare a bucket and remove the drain line from the drain saddle and have the water drain into the bucket. Check if the drain water decreases in flow and eventually stops draining after about 2-3 minutes. If that is the case, then the ASV is performing as it should and it is considered NORMAL. If the drain doesn’t decrease in flowrate or stops after 5 minutes, most likely the ASV is DEFECTIVE and should be replaced. For replacement part, order item PT-QCASV2.

Do you know about the contaminants in your municipal water supply?

Some of the most common chemicals and contaminants found in municipal water supply are the following:‎

CHLORINE, added to public water supplies to kill disease-causing bacteria, but chlorine is prompted to react with other naturally-occurring elements to form toxins called trihalomethanes (THMS), which is proven carcinogen.

HEAVY METALS, result from urban storm runoff, industrial or gas production, mining and farming.

VIRUSES and BACTERIA from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations and wildlife.

PESTICIDES and HERBICIDES from agriculture, urban storm water runoff and residential use.

So the next time you see tiny particles swirling around your glass; bear in mind that they are not minerals. These particles are not just annoying, they are also usually proven to be harmful contaminates.

Does a reverse osmosis system remove parasites, bacteria, cysts, and cryptosporidium?

‎‎Yes. Per NSF, giardia cysts and cryptosporidium are typically in the range of 1 micron, and reverse osmosis thin film composite (TFC) membrane pores are 0.0001 micron or 1 x 10-8cm, a size 10,000 times smaller than these microorganisms. So these bacteria will be removed and not be able to pass through the membrane

What contaminants are reduced by a reverse osmosis water filtration system?

Reverse Osmosis reduces a huge variety of Total Dissolved Solids in water. We have charted out some common TDS contaminants and what percent of reduction you can generally expect below. The exact results may vary depending on the water quality in your area.

My airgap faucet is noisy, what can I do?

- Constant gurgling noise coming from the airgap faucet is due to the 3/8" OUT drain tube connected from the airgap to the drain pipe sagging lower than the point where it connects to the drain pipe, thus causing a siphoning effect. To fix, simply shorten the drain tube so water flows down the whole length with no low spots. If the gurgling sound still doesn't stop, this could be due to the connected drain water from your RO system flowing above the flowrate capacity of the airgap faucet at 20 oz/min.t

My airgap faucet is leaking water at the airgap hole, what can i do?

This is due to the 3/8" OUT drain tube being clogged/blocked and drain water is backed up, resulting in drain water exiting the airgap hole. To fix, unblock the drain tube. If the leaking still doesn't stop, this could be due to the connected drain water from your RO system flowing above the flowrate capacity of the airgap faucet at 20 oz/min.

What is the flowrate of the RO filtration faucets?

The faucets can handle up to 1.25 gpm of flowrate, more than enough to handle hook ups from RO systems and non-RO systems.

My Metpure Versatile RO system is not filling up the water in the storage tank, what should I do?

Plumbing Parts

How do I know if the plumbing fittings will fit the size I need?

Plumbing fittings are measured in nominal diameter. So, if a copper fitting is listed as 1/2”, then that size will fit the same nominal size copper pipe.

What is the wall thickness of your copper fittings?

The copper fittings have 1/8” wall thickness.

What is a "street" elbow or a "street" fitting?

Street fitting is simply a fitting that is the same as FTG, or has the same outside diameter (OD) of a copper pipe of the same nominal diameter.

How is a tee fitting dimensions designated?

In plumbing, you will call out a tee fitting by its through sides first, from larger diameter to smaller diameter, if both sides have different dimensions, then the lateral, or short side, be called out last. In the illustration, the pipe fitting will be called“1-1/2” x 1-1/4” x 3/4” copper tee”

What is the difference between C and FTG fittings?

C stands for coupling and FTG stands for fitting. The C end of a copper fitting will fit over a copper pipe of the same nominal diameter. The FTG end of a copper fitting will have the same outside diameter (OD) of a copper pipe of the same nominal diameter.

Are your copper fittings lead-free?

Yes. Wrought copper fittings are confirmed in compliance with federal and state lead content requirements of 0.25% or less. All copper fittings we carry are produced with Lead Free process.

Besides soldering, are there other methods to connect pressurized copper pipe fittings?

Yes. Other options such as push-fit fittings, press fittings, and PEX are becoming more popular due to their ease, speed, and non-required soldering tools (and potential fire hazard) to make the connection. However, special tools may be required to connect those fittings. These fittings are available in our product line.

What is the difference between NPT, FIP, MIP, FPT, and MPT fittings?

FIP stands for female iron pipe, MIP stands male iron pipe, FPT stands for female pipe threads, and MPT stands for male pipe threads. FIP and FPT are the same and both have the same nominal diameter, likewise, MIP and MPT are the same and both have the same nominal diameter. They are all considered national pipe threads or NPT.
